Swallow some pills to control the guns?!

Careful what you swallow

There was a young man who swallowed a cry

I don't know why he swallowed a cry – perhaps he'll lie!

There was a young man who swallowed a paedophile,

That wriggled and jiggled inside a while;

He swallowed the paedophile to catch the cry;

I don't know why he swallowed a cry – perhaps he'll lie!

There was a young man who swallowed an unheard;

How absurd to swallow an unheard.

He swallowed the unheard to catch the paedophile,

He swallowed the paedophile to catch the cry;

I don't know why he swallowed a cry – perhaps he'll lie!

There was a young man who swallowed a scat;

Fancy that to swallow a scat!

He swallowed the scat to catch the unheard,

He swallowed the unheard to catch the paedophile,

He swallowed the paedophile to catch the cry;

I don't know why he swallowed a cry – Perhaps he'll die!

There was a young man that swallowed hair of a dog;

He had too much grog and swallowed hair of a dog;

He swallowed the grog to catch the scat,

He swallowed the scat to catch the unheard,

He swallowed the unheard to catch the paedophile,

He swallowed the paedophile to catch the cry;

I don't know why he swallowed a cry – perhaps he'll lie!

There was a young man who swallowed a disallow,

I don't know how he swallowed a disallow;

He swallowed the disallow to catch the grog,

He swallowed the grog to catch the scat,

He swallowed the scat to catch the unheard,

He swallowed the unheard to catch the paedophile,

He swallowed the paedophile to catch the cry;

I don't know why he swallowed a cry – perhaps he'll lie!

There was a young man subjected to psychiatric force...

He’s the living-dead, of course!

Swallow drugs to control guns?

It’s no fun to swallow a gun.

You can go too far with swallowing things. Pills because you have hallucinations, pills because those pills cause depression, more pills because those pills cause Tardive Dyskinesia, pills because one of the pills or their combination is causing epilepsy... it's never ending.

There has been a call via psychiatrists for more forced-drugging controls , more mental health screenings of youth ... Yeah, swallow some pills to control the guns! Akinesia and feeling like you have Alzheimer’s at age 20 from the psychiatric drugs that say on the packet, 'don't use heavy machinery', then having, under the influence, a right to buy a gun, not a good mix... Of course there's something wrong with your thoughts if you want to kill people, but the drugs don't fix that, they make it worse, particularly when they're forced and the torturous realities are denied. Denying reality causes a person to wonder what is real. In any case antisocial behaviour has nothing to do with mental health laws. It doesn't fit the criteria under the act for involuntary treatment.

Where does your opinion come from? What validates it?

That question, ‘Does Art therapy work?’ has me giving the answer, ‘Much better than psychiatry, because it’s about treating people as individuals with valid opinions, even if that person is caught up in a symbolic parallel sense, that doesn’t meet with consensual reality.’

                There is a group of people, who are probably typical of most Australians, with assumptions about people who have been forcefully drugged and end up suiciding because of the pain and dysfunction caused by the psychiatric drugs. There is an opinion that, ‘they’d suicide anyway, those people, so what’s the difference?’

                The difference, for a person, even if they were at all suicidal, is in how we treat them. If a person is helped to explore what is driving the suicidal feelings, encouraged to follow through with things that they love, that have been dampened by society, enabled to find safe housing, encouraged to make friends, given hope, then they’re more likely to reason that life is sometimes good and worth pursuing. If they are drugged so they feel worse than they felt before, then that’s not going to happen. The worst case scenario is.

                Why is that such a hard concept for people to grasp, that treating a person in a way that’s friendly, rather than violating, is going to have better results?

                There is this smear of ‘other’ placed on anyone who has been diagnosed with mental health issues. Society doesn’t want to believe that it’s something that can happen to anyone under stress who has been traumatised. No, ‘these mental people’ are somehow, ‘Neanderthal or something akin to something that’s not fit to be treated humanely and given autonomy over what goes into their body.’

I’m sure if the public media propagated further propaganda they probably could convince society to use ‘these mental people’ for body parts. They would, of course, have to stop the use of the chemical strait-jackets, so that the recipient wouldn’t be infected by these damaging chemicals. (A person using psychiatric drugs cannot even donate blood because these chemicals are so toxic.)

I wonder at things like neuroleptics that are so horrible they could never be sold as a street drug. Benzos, such as Valium, yes, but not any of the ‘anti-psychotics’. People would pay good money to stop psychiatrists from forcing them on them though. No one wants the bad feeling they give, the emotional-dulling, the twitching, the aches, the inability, the weight-gain, the diabetes, the chronic fatigue, the mental shut down, the memory loss, the depression… no one wants that.

I wonder at people who adamantly say, ‘I don’t agree with you,’ when I advocate choice; that people should have a choice of therapy. If they really want drugs, fine, give them that, but if they don’t ,there are plenty of ways of working with people to enable them, rather than disabling them with drugs for fear of what ‘madness’ might ‘do’.

Stupid, stupid fears. Ignorance and people trained to have opinions that are based on never listening to anyone who actually has experienced the effects of psychiatric drugs. ‘Oh, no, no, no, no, don’t listen to them, those Neanderthal things or whatever they are, they can’t have an opinion, they’re not in their right mind. They can’t work out anything for themselves. Best drug them so they are more pliable and drug them more if there’s a peep of complaining out of them. Show them who’s boss!’

Um. Yeah. I find that kind of opinion rather nasty. I’m happy I’m not a stupid ignorant psychiatry follower like them. Sure, I’m marked and mustn’t behave too eccentrically or I’ll be carted off and tortured again, but at least I’m not ignorant like them. They’re like fat Nazi followers, when it comes to that opinion of theirs. They don’t know how really how offensive it is for psychiatric survivors to hear them assert their beliefs that support torture regimes our country really needs to put a stop to.

People must listen to the right people. And who are the ‘right’ people? Well, just think about it… Do you listen to those trained in how to torture? Or, to the people who have been tortured by them? Ask yourself, where does your opinion come from? What validates it? Recognise the truth. If you’re not listening to those with lived-experience, if you don’t consider them to be the experts in this scenario, then shut up and learn! Because you don’t know what you’re talking about, if that’s you. Your opinion is based on a power regime. It is not ethical and it is not ever going to be valid, except to the pockets it lines and the ignorant public fears it subscribes to.

Society is to blame for psychiatry. And, psychiatry tortured me amongst many others. So, society must recognise their wrongs and change things so people aren’t continually harmed in their name. Being duped by propaganda is stupidity. Don’t let your opinions be marked by that.

If I hear one more opinion damning a ‘patient’ for fighting while they’re being held down to have torturous chemicals injected in them, I’m going to laugh in that person’s face and say, ‘You deserved it. What did you expect? That they’d let you hurt them without a fight? You're not injecting them with vitamins. You're injecting them with disabling, stupidfying torturous chemicals to make them sleep all day. Chemicals that cause them to feel physically sick, that cause epilesy and suicidal feelings. It's not as though it's any good for them at all. Prevents them from doing much at all though. So that means you don't have to do as much.’

There are psych nurses who get into a lot of trouble when they even complain to a psychiatrist about a medication that’s causing seizures or Parkinsonian movements. A psychiatrist doesn’t want to know of patient complaints! And, psych nurses can’t get a pay rise, let alone go on strike to stop things like forced drugging. But at some point the harm has got to stop. At some point recognition of all the really damaging psychiatric practices has to happen. Compensation should be then given to those subjected to the regime, or at least some kind of apology and assurance that the horror isn’t going to continue.

The only way the necessary change is going to happen, is by people recognising what does and doesn’t make sense. Torture isn’t okay. All those who are of the opinion that it is okay, get with it and stop wearing your swastika like a badge of honour. Your psychiatric cult driven opinions are ugly, ugly, ugly stupid ignorant dribble. Keep your dumb mouth shut and learn some respect for those who actually do know what they’re talking about.

‘Or what?’ they say, ‘You’ll post another angry little blog?’

Yeah, something like that.

In the mean time I'll wear this:

What to call a thought and how to categorise its type

I’ve integrated all the ‘voices’ I’ve had in my previous years. For thirteen years part of my mind thought the best way to divide up aspects of myself I didn’t agree with, from those thoughts I liked and called my ‘self’, was to put those other thoughts into voices I heard outside myself. If they ever were in my head, then they were marked as different from my own spontaneous thoughts and different again from the external ‘auditory hallucinations’. Admittedly I didn’t cognitively think this through, but thought on such stories as John Shirley’s, ‘What Cindy saw.’

                This experiment in dividing up my thoughts failed to work well because I didn’t have adequate support in maintaining this way of thinking. I knew I had to do something with the thoughts that I didn’t want to own but intruded on me because of the way others had put pressure on me at various times of my life, causing a ‘bruise’ on my psyche, that’s why I created the voices. I became isolated and was told that my writings about this system of thought could not be marketed to the Australian public. It was disappointing.

                As I grew more disenchanted with society and it’s rejection of my solutions, I pressed myself for ways that I could ‘show them’ the reasons why I had this system of thought. This turned out to be disastrous because I also had other things crash and burn in my life at that time.

                After my three last attempts to find a way to communicate my inner workings, I came to the conclusion that my system was no good, because it was unsupported by society, thus led to isolation, and this led to my symbolic accusations of what society was doing (driven by my anger at them for not accepting what I had accomplished) and then, there was the psychiatric abuse that occurs when thoughts are outside the range of understood sense.

                I realised that in order to never accuse people in a symbolic, unclear way again, in order to not become further away from consensual understanding, in order to never again be abused by psychiatrists, I had to scrap my system of ‘hearing voices’ to separate my thoughts and change the network of my mind so that everything I thought was integrated into ‘self.’ This I find is messy, not neat like the ‘voices’ system, but helps me not get wrapped up in inspiration, helps not confuse it with what reality is about. The messiness of soup integration is exacerbated by certain thoughts which connect heavily with speech and other movements that I’ve been calling ‘Tourette’s.’ What I mean by Tourette’s is that these ‘thoughts’ are not really ‘thoughts’ any more than Parkinsonian movements are ‘thoughts.’

I recently attended a workshop about voice dialoguing. I felt I needed to distinguish ‘Tourette’s’ from the ‘voice hearing’ I’d experienced in for thirteen years, because, to me, what I term, ‘Tourette’s’ is very different from my experience of voice hearing.

                I did try to dialogue with the lines of Tourette’s I’ve been hearing and sometimes speaking for over a year. And, I felt great relief in being able to express that stuff that’s inside me, by explaining it to other people. I get a lot out of empathetic witnessing and sensitive questioning. Although, after the session the frequency of the Tourette’s did increase, the next day the Tourette’s didn’t hammer, or even ghost a few lines in my head. It was so wonderfully absent.

                I think I can break the Tourette’s up into categories and give it names, but really, to me, it’s just a bundle of thoughts in a tangle. I feel in talking about the tangle, I untangle. In having an empathetic listener, I become less annoyed at the tangle.

                I have a theory that my particular ‘tangle’ of thoughts I call Tourette’s is located in the motor part of my brain. That doesn’t mean it can be burnt out by some surgeon’s laser, or cut with a scalpel. NFW! It just means over time, with others’ help, I can untangle it and help those thoughts make more sense.

                I got criticised at the workshop, for calling my tangle of thoughts, ‘Tourette’s’. In a telling off manner I was asked, ‘Why do you want to give yourself another medical label?’

                 I wasn’t given the opportunity to answer, as this person stormed off after he said this and wouldn’t engage with me verbally afterwards.

                And yet another person followed what he said with, ‘Why don’t you just call them “Voices”?’

                After this I got an increase in my repeated lines from the ‘thought tangle’ and I knew I was very angry at being told to fit in with what didn’t make sense to me.

                I’m not totally happy with the term ‘Tourette’s’ or ‘verbal tics’, but what I have don’t feel fall into the category of ‘voices’.

Voices, for me led to unusual beliefs that were not supported by society. They also had a flood of other ideas associated with them, that the verbal tics do not. The voices led me to accusing people of doing things they hadn’t done. Which led me to being labelled as having ‘psychosis’ and then to being forcefully drugged with chemicals I believed damaged my neuropathways so badly that the verbal and physical tics emerged as a brain injury response that verbally reflected on other traumas in my life.

Perhaps I should just say I have involuntary thought tangles which mean I have repeated thoughts accompanied by small jerking movements in my body, and when I am alone these verbal lines that repeat come out my mouth, and surprise me. I have no indication that it is going to happen when it happens, it just does.

What I’d like to do is work with someone in untangling the thoughts. I recognise that the sentences and words fall into three basic categories which relate to three separate traumas via three separate perpetrators, all of which happened over a number of years.

Perhaps I could work in doing voice dialoguing. But I think this needs to be done in combination with other non-invasive therapy.

Most likely I won’t get to work with a professional therapist. Most likely I will have to try to work it out myself. But at least I have a lovely partner who will talk things through with me. And, I have over a year of Art Therapy techniques I have learnt in my diploma.

It is hard to find people who really engage with where you’re at, when you need to sort out your mind. Well, for me, I’ve found it is. I’m not into people who aim at getting a cry out of me. I’ve lived with enough bullies to just laugh at people like that. This tends to make a therapist like that sulky and then they just make me angry and even though I may like them in many ways I feel like turning them into a joke, just to wrap them up and have done with them, because they don’t seem to like me and I don’t see why I should continue to like someone who doesn’t like me. I also get annoyed with a therapist who is too spiritually orientated and sort of suggests that maybe I’m being haunted by ghosts. I don’t roll my eyes, but I want to, because, when I’m not the therapist, and they are, I feel if they’d listened to me properly they’d have realised that ghosts aren’t really part of my belief system, and I don’t want them to be, because, it’d mean the danger of ending up in psychiatric hands being labelled with ‘psychosis.’

I want someone who is willing to understand my beliefs. That my thoughts have taken a physical battering via neuroleptics and that I developed particular coping mechanisms to deal with trauma situations I’ve experience that haven’t been properly healed.

It’s hard working out things on your own. But, not all therapists are right for you. I haven’t given enough therapists a go. In my life I’ve only seen two psychologists and they’d all add up to probably only twelve sessions.

If I do go to a therapist, again, it’d probably be an art therapist, or someone in peer support who’s done some training. Otherwise I’ll go to workshops and annoy the lecturers with questions they don’t have the answers for.

Peer support groups are a really good way to discuss what’s on your mind in a non-threatening, non-diagnosing environment. I’ve found them to be the best way of understanding consensual reality from the view of people who have had similar experiences, like ‘hearing  voices,' ‘grief’, or ‘addiction’. Probably ‘Tourette’s’ as well, but then, who am I to use a medical term that leads to invasive surgery and ends in brain damage?

Thinking is thinking and learning to think in ways we want to, that enables us to forge connections in society, rather than become isolated, is important. Thinking outside the range of understood sense, is not an illness, it is a coping mechanism, it is a habit, it is an attempt to be understood, an attempt to be successful, an attempt to invent what needs to be invented. This thinking should not be harmed but helped into becoming what can be accepted by society, for inventions to come to fruition, for people to succeed.

I want professionals in mental health to think outside the test-tubes of their science studies and realise how limiting chemistry is when it comes to human thinking, coping with stress, trauma and learning to behave appropriately (ie in wartime people collected containers in cupboards, now we put them in the recycling bin! People have to learn…) I want therapies that don’t isolate, stigmatise and torture people for ‘not making sense’. People want to communicate. It is only things like fear of further harm and harsh judgment that puts barriers in communication pathways. An effort must be made by people who want to work in the field of mental health to get over their own fears in regards to ‘madness’. They must actively try to understand another’s perception, their path of thoughts, their way of organising their thinking, or a particular use of terminology, because that’s what makes individuality.

By reading memoirs of people who have been labelled by psychiatry, watching video or written blogs by people with lived-experience of things like ‘voices’, understanding can be reached. Otherwise, continuing to read second or third-hand ‘case studies’ or going to psychiatric lectures, is kind of like trying to understand the holocaust from the point of view of those who judged, labelled, undermined and made money out of the people they tortured and murdered.

I am like the Prime Minister

I am an atheist

Like the Aussie

Prime Minister.

And, similar again

Because both our fathers

Studied science.

But mine was

A secondary school teacher,

Where as hers

Was a psychiatric nurse.

My father taught me

About nature’s ecology

And a range of maths equations.

Don’t know though,

If Julia’s father taught her

About how he had to

Participate in torturing people

In order to feed her.

Even if he did

And this upset her,

Does she actually have

The power to do anything

To stop laws that force

Psychiatric nurses from

Doing what goes against

Most people’s ethics?

I am an atheist

Like the Aussie PM.

We have fathers

Who were scientists.

My father never

Beat a student

When it was legal.

But if Julia’s father

Didn’t forcefully drug

People under his care,

He would’ve got the sack

And little Julia

Would’ve gone hungry.

I wonder how

An atheist can believe

Into the cult of psychiatry.

It doesn’t seem logical,

Now Julia has power

And enough money,

For her to continue to do

What her father did

In torturing people,

In order to feed her

When she was a child.

Psychiatrists are now

Under her rule.

She’s not an underdog

Nurse like her father

Trying to pay bills

And keep a family.

Julia like me,

Has no children, see.

I am an atheist

Like the Aussie PM

Who needs to change

The law so that she

Won’t do what her father

Had to, in order to

Feed his family.

Government call for reform in psychiatric hospitals?!

Not a chemical imbalance protest T-shirt slogans

Not sure what happens when these T-shirts are worn. I haven’t actually bought mine yet.  But I will. In the mean time I’ll keep making them, as possibilities…

Testing out the public with such things as social protest, against laws that are criminal, which the general public don’t understand, due to media propaganda, can be tricky, but it is worth a try.

Here’s some slogans that I’ve come up with recently: click here to go to Redbubble site to see more

Memories of trauma are surfacing as symptoms

The things that are

Called surfacing symptoms

Are on my tongue to say again

And I am making peace

With them, this time.

I am recognising that

Yes it did occur and yes

It was bad enough to

Harm me, but now I’m healed.

The wounds in my psyche

Have had recognition enough

To realise they don’t need

To worry about the worry

That existed in the past.

I am past that danger zone…

I drop those thoughts in

To the part of my mind

That is on remote control,

Drop those thoughts in…

Like a person with stomach

Ulcers trying to relax

The stomach that dissolves

The food in it automatically,

I drop those thoughts in…

Like an asthmatic meditating

And singing to get the automatic

Breath back to where

It is most comfortable.

I drop those thoughts in…

I am making the memory

Muscle of my mind relax

And stop being a problem,

Because it isn’t really,

It’s just a memory of trauma

That needed more conscious

Recognition that those things

That happened over years

And years, then happened

Again in other ways

With different people,

Weren’t okay and I won’t

Allow myself to be

Controlled that way again.

I know that love isn’t

An ambivalent thing,

It never should be

Extracted via fear, and if it is,

Then that is not okay

And should be acknowledged

For the wrong that it is.
